Join the Berkeley Food Institute for a conversation with researchers from UC Berkeley and UC Davis and the California Attorney General’s Bureau of Environmental Justice. The panelists will share examples of promising food policies, common gaps, and the state’s role in supporting and monitoring compliance. The discussion will also explore how residents and advocates can hold cities accountable to their plans. Planners, policymakers, researchers, students, and community advocates will leave with practical ideas for planning for food and for taking part in the process.

The formation of the Davis Farmers Market 50 years ago was a revolutionary movement to connect consumers directly to farmers and helped shape the fresh flavors of California cuisine. Markets have been a cornerstone of the community and have also played a pivotal role in food access, especially during supply chain shortages and widespread food recalls. Inevitably, markets have evolved. Join us as we explore the history, impact and changing role of farmers markets in local communities.

The Robert Mondavi Institute and UC Davis Library have embarked on this partnership to advance our shared commitment to supporting scholarship about food and wine, at UC Davis and beyond.

Dr. Brinkley represents the Yolo Basic Income evaluation team for the Yolo County Board of Supervisors evaluation report on Feb 25, 2025. The evaluation highlights findings from one of the first 100 garunteed income programs in the US, which ran from 2022-2024 and benefitted families experiencing homelessness with children under the age of 6 years old. This groundbreaking meeting will be co-hosted by UN-Habitat and the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy (GCoM) and the IPCC.
Dr. Brinkley presents three published studies on the food environment and diet-related health at the NSF-sponsored Convergence Accelerator workshop “Sustainable Systems Enabling Food Security in Extreme Environments and Food Deserts employing a Convergence of Food, Energy, Water and Systems” focuses on ensuring sustainable food production systems and achieving food security in extreme environments.
